about

DBZ is about two forms of futility. It is about the paradox of never feeling young, even during one’s supposed youth. It is also about the ultimate impossibility of completely understanding another person. In algebra, dividing by zero leads nowhere. It is “indeterminate,” or “an impossibility.”

Thanks to Chase Schultz for the guitar part which we recorded in the middle of a party! This was a fun single to piece together. Like many QC songs it's a coalescing of many different influences into something that resembles pop.

lyrics

I was never young as you,
I was never young as me;
I was never gonna be your hero.
I been aged from the womb,
I got tombs in my room;
To be young I divide by zero.
I can’t be young again
Cuz I was never young once;
And I can never discern what the time wants.

I was never young as you,
I was never young as me;
I was never gonna be your hero.
I got music in my head,
All my dreams half-dead;
I can hear them shits chuckle like Nero.
They chuckle like Nero.
I can’t be young again,
Cuz I was never young once;
I can never discern what the time wants.

I could never hear you,
You could never hear me;
You were with that young shit always.
Goin down to Echo Park
In the boats after dark:
I was in my dusty hallways,
Trippin down my dusty hallways.
And you tried to explain what it meant to me,
But your words sprouted feet and run away from me.
And they done got away from me.

I can never discern what the time wants.
And you was trippin off the way that my mind runs.
And I could never sit still in your silence,
Cuz it sounded like sirens.
And I was done with your day ones.
Couldn’t sleep at your house
With my noggin unstrung.
Didn’t know what the day was.

I was never young as you,
I was never young as me;
I was never gonna be your hero.
I been aged from the womb,
I got tombs in my room;
To be young I divide by zero.
I divide by zero.
I divide by zero.
